THE FOUNDER
“Fumilayo exists to give joy, to honour who we are, and to dress women in stories that last beyond a moment.”
— Jadesola Payne, Founder
Fumilayo is an Afro-modern bridal and occasionwear brand, founded by London-based designer Jadesola Payne. Rooted in Nigerian heritage and shaped by contemporary luxury, the brand celebrates identity, craftsmanship, and the enduring power of culture.
Jadesola began sewing at the age of eleven, developing a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and design from an early age. At seventeen, she launched her first label, Diamante Verde, a brand inspired by aspiration and refinement, with early collections showcased at London Fashion Week, Africa Fashion Week London, and internationally across Leicester and Vancouver. Yet, while the brand captured ambition, it did not fully reflect her identity or cultural heritage.
In 2021, following a personal journey of healing and rediscovery in Nigeria, the brand was reborn as Fumilayo — derived from her middle name Olufunmilayo, meaning “give me joy” in Yoruba.
“I wanted a name that felt like me — something that celebrated my roots and the joy I found returning home. Fumilayo felt like both a prayer and a promise.”
Today, Fumilayo blends traditional Nigerian techniques, including adire, weaving, and hand embroidery — with the precision of British tailoring. Each piece is designed to honour heritage while embracing modern femininity. Guided by a philosophy of co-creation, the brand invites women into the design process, creating garments that reflect their individuality and the moments they wish to mark. More than fashion, Fumilayo is a celebration of joy, identity, and legacy — creating pieces to be worn, remembered, and passed on.
